Mark J. Phillips

February 22, 1957 ~ May 24, 2018 (age 61)

Mark Joseph Phillips, 61, of Maynard, and formerly of Wayland and Norwood, died on Thursday,  May 24, 2018.

Mark graduated from MIT (BSEE Course VI-1) in 1979 and went on to a distinguished career in hardware and software engineering.  He designed several groundbreaking products in the audio, power, and biotechnical industries.  Mark had a highly inventive and curious mind, reflected in his many interests and hobbies.  He was always generous in his time and support to his colleagues even as he challenged them to do their best.  Mark was never content to settle for the surface view of things, and those who knew him will fondly remember his raspy voice as he debated the issues of importance to the world.

Mark was an unfailingly generous person who contributed to the success of everyone around him.  He was a supportive and guiding big brother, not just to his siblings but to many people he befriended. He dearly loved his stepchildren and grandchildren, and maintained close relationships with his immediate and extended family, as well as a large network of friends, throughout his life.  His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was the beloved son of Mary Ann (Kling) Phillips and the late Bernard Phillips.  Mark is survived by his former wife, Sherry Phillips; stepchildren Stephanie Campbell and her husband Shawn; Shannon McCarthy; and Tyler McMahon; and three grandchildren.  Mark was the loving brother of Janie Schwab and her husband James of New York; Teresa Katuska and her husband Charles of Harwich; Stephen Phillips and his wife Laurie of Southborough; Robert Phillips and his wife Kathy of Acton; Paul Phillips and his wife Joan of Westborough; Christopher Phillips and his wife Diane of Walpole; Michael Phillips of Northborough; Anne Marie Phillips and her husband Charles Heinle of New Jersey; and the late Andrew Phillips.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne Church, 20 Boston Rd, Southborough, on Saturday, June 2 at 11:00 am.  Burial will be private.

Visiting hours will be at Morris Southborough Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough on Friday, June 1, from 4 to 7 pm.
